Mia Kai // One Year Old!

If you're following along with the 2017 Scripture Memory / Dwell Richly printable, here's the verse for week 15:

He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection. Psalm 91:4 (NLT)

Happiest of birthdays to our little pineapple, Mia Kai!! A few of our friends and family gathered this past weekend to celebrate - and, oh, what a sweet celebration it was! As we stood around together before blessing the food, I looked around and felt a bit emotional. What a year this has been! It's been a fantastic year - watching our little Mia Kai grow and learn but it's also been a bit challenging. Between her surgery and well, everything that else that the first year of life entails for a baby and first-time parents, we've had our ups and downs. We're deeply grateful for our community, the people who have walked so closely with us this past year and the sweet ways God has carried us through it all. To see everyone gathered together at one time... it was comforting and a wave of overwhelming amount of peace flooded over us. But I digress. :)

Okay, onto the details of the party!! What began as a tribal theme, turned into more of a teepee garden party.

DECOR

C H A L K B O A R D // Inspired by the tribal and floral themes, I decorated our chalkboard with words to describe Mia Kai and everything she loves, surrounded by vines, florals, arrows and a teepee. The huge branch above the chalkboard just happened to fall from an old tree a couple of weeks before the party so I let it dry out then hung it against the wall with rope. We clipped branches from one of our bushes in the garden and arranged them to give a woodland feel. I looped some string around the branch then used mini clothespins hang little IG photos of MK.

C A K E  + C U P C A K E S // A few weeks before this party, my family threw a  small family party for Mia Kai's first birthday. It was so sweet and perfect... until they brought out the cake. She lost. it. We couldn't decide if it was all of the attention or being messy or the icing but she despised that beautiful cake. What a memory! It prepped me for this party though. We thought about getting a custom cake but now I'm super thankful we didn't spend the money on it. ;) I bought a cheap cake from Target then found these fantastic little butterflies at Hobby Lobby in the garden section and placed them in the cake and cupcakes. It was whimsical and fun! I added a pretty little pink no.1 on top of the cake as the centerpiece and laid the beautiful white, gold-tipped feathers my mom made on top of the wooden pieces.

C O O K I E S // Oh my. These cookies, y'all. I just can't even. My friend, Kellie, made these fantastic cookies!! Typically cookies that look this amazing don't taste so great but we couldn't stop eating them. They were absolutely delish!! And so cute, right?

T E E P E E // We bought her simple white teepee here then I found those beautiful garlands from Michaels and draped them across the top and sides. Isn't it just dreamy? Mia Kai thinks so. She crawls in there with her favorite stuffed animals and pillows then snuggles with them all. It's the cutest. She proceeds to stack her rings, loads Cheerios and other fun things into her dump truck, looks through a book then snuggles some more. Oh, the life of a one-year-old. It's so simple yet so complex. ;)
